Winner — Hotel Designer Awards 2026, Sustainability & Nature

Hotel rooms are designed around inevitable cycles of change, yet refurbishment often results in entire interiors being replaced long before many components have reached the end of their useful life.

This proposal rethinks the hotel room as a layered system, separating elements according to their lifespan. A permanent architectural core is complemented by repairable materials, components designed for disassembly, recyclable soft goods and a curated programme of artwork and lighting that evolves over time.

The result is a luxury interior designed to adapt through successive refurbishment cycles, rather than be repeatedly replaced.
