Architect in Derbyshire

reWorks is a design-led architecture studio based in Belper, working across Derby and the surrounding Derbyshire villages.

We specialise in thoughtfully designed extensions, renovations and retrofit projects, integrating architecture and interiors from the outset so structure, layout and material decisions feel cohesive rather than added on.

Our work is rooted in careful re-use — retaining what works, improving performance and designing new elements with clarity and purpose.

Residential & Commercial Projects Across Derbyshire

We primarily work on residential extensions and renovations — including side return and rear extensions, loft conversions, internal reconfiguration and whole-house refurbishments — alongside selected commercial retrofit and workplace projects where thoughtful spatial reorganisation and sustainable re-use are central to the brief. Many Derbyshire buildings, whether homes or commercial spaces, have evolved over time; our role is to improve light, flow and performance while respecting their existing character. Residential projects typically involve construction budgets from £60,000–£250,000+, depending on scope.

A Clear & Integrated Design Process

Architecture and interiors are often treated as separate disciplines; we prefer to consider them together from the outset. By resolving spatial strategy, joinery, materials and lighting alongside the architectural framework, we create spaces — whether homes or workplaces — that feel cohesive rather than pieced together in stages. Working across Belper, Derby, Duffield, Ashbourne and the wider Amber Valley, we guide projects from initial consultation through feasibility, planning and detailed technical design, keeping the process clear, considered and grounded throughout…

Frequently Asked Questions

At ReWorks, we combine architecture and interior design under one calm, thoughtful process. Our focus is on sustainability, longevity, and local craftsmanship — creating spaces that are timeless rather than trend-driven.

We follow a clear framework: Retain → Reuse → Reclaim → New to help clients make conscious, practical design decisions.

It depends on your project.  Architects focus on structure and flow; interior designers on the experience within it.

At ReWorks, we bridge both disciplines — ensuring your project feels cohesive from concept to completion, whether it’s a home renovation, retail fit-out, or workspace design.

We work across residential, retail, and workplace design, from home renovations and extensions to full interior fit-outs and adaptive reuse projects.

Our focus is on thoughtful, sustainable design — whether that means reimagining existing buildings, creating flexible commercial spaces, or delivering carefully detailed homes.

Each project is approached with the same principles: creativity, responsibility, and longevity.

Yes — we regularly manage both planning applications and listed building consent as part of our architectural services.

We start by assessing your property’s context, heritage value, and any planning constraints to determine what approvals are needed.

From there, we prepare all required drawings, advise on what statements or supporting documents might be needed, and liaise directly with local planning and conservation officers on your behalf.

Our approach balances creativity with compliance — ensuring designs respect the building’s history while meeting modern sustainability, functionality, and comfort goals.

At reWorks, our fees are structured in line with the RIBA Plan of Work (the Royal Institute of British Architects’ framework that sets out each stage of a building project — from early concept and planning through to technical design, construction, and completion). This approach offers both flexibility and transparency, allowing you to commission the level of service that best suits your project.

For full interior and architectural services on residential projects, we typically charge between 8% -15% of the total construction value of a project. This is in line with industry standards.
